Defective 2.4 GHz digital cordless phone

Does anybody know of a way, to figure out which one out of a 2.4GHz digital
cordless phone set is most likely the one, having a broken down RF transmitter
w/o access to special high $$$$ test equipment?

The phone unit and the base station seem to work fine individually, but aren't
able to establish an RF link anymore (line connect, page the handset).

Is there some magic that can be done with stuff available in an average
stocked electronics component box?
