Gibson alvin lee wiring question..any GURUs out there???

Hi...I am trying to copy the circuit on the new Gibson Alvin Lee model
guitar.
It is a regular 335 config but has an additional single coil (SC) in
the middle of the 2 hummers. This SC works INDEPENDENTLY of the other
pus. That is, the volume of BOTH hummers can be OFF and I can raise
the SC by using the ADDED volume control.

I have routed out my guitar and installed the PU. But...it wont come on
unless one of the hummers is turned up...so I have something wrong.

Can someone tell me how to wire this so that it works TOTALLY
INDEPENDENT of the other pus?

I have the white lead to the input of the ADDED volume control.
The black lead is grounded.
Lug 2 of Pot is to the TIP of the guitar jack.
I also tried connecting this lug to the middle pos of the toggle
switch...no difference.
Lug 3 is grounded.

The pu works, but NOT independently.
Can someone provide a schematic or tell me where I went 'off'?
Thanks!!
