JVC RX-707V component needed
 
I jumped the bad fuse on this unit and smoke quickly came from this
component on the board.

It looks like a ceramic 1 inch shoebox. It has three leads and is
marked: A (trademark?) 3w 0.22 ohms 1 D 2.

Is there any hope replacing this, (finding), and is this just a
symptom of another problem.

I've looked at Radio Shack, Quest, etc. but I obviously wish it were a
simple resistor.

I hope you can help me find one.

Whilst these are available, you can just as easily use two separate R22
resistors. However, this will not be the end of the problem. That double
resistor is the emitter resistors for the output pair, so at a very minimum,
these transistors will be shot, and very likely, their drivers and maybe
pre-drivers, as well as the bias compensation transistor, and probably
several other resistors in the output pair's base drive coupling. This sort
of failure is not to be treated lightly, and at a bare minimum, you will
need a set of schematics, a good multimeter, possibly a 'scope, a deep
wallet, and loads of patience ...

Thanks Arfa, I guess it's time for Best Buy. It's complicated enough
to connect a receiver to a TV, CD, tape, mp3, and a computer. I'll
miss this unit. I read about 150 posts. I'm amazed that anyone works
on home electronics anymore except for a hobby.

If you go at the stuff with the right tools, and enough years' experience,
there's still good money to be made from it - especially if you can get
hooked into trade warranty repairs, which pay a fixed amount whether you get
a fix or not, but I take your point. As long as there is only one or two of
you doing it in an area, then it's still ok. As soon as you are in
competition with more than a couple of others, then work becomes thinly
spread these days, and it gets to be a struggle. If you can find a
specialist niche it helps.
