IDing parts, finding specific schematics... need some help
Good day, folks. I was wondering if you could help me out with a
little research here. I'm a bit new to electronics in general and I don't know exactly where to look for this kind of information. The case in point is the playstation 2 gaming console. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9295/v12xa8.jpg Specifically, I need to find out what that is, the tiny black piece there. A resistance or something? I need some specs because I have a broken PS2 with that part missing. I was wondering if it could be replaced by something similar. Either way, I'm interested in all the resource sites and whatnot about this sort of thing. Any ideas? |

With a very strong magnifying glass or microscope, can you see any markings on it at all ? How did the one in your other PS2 come to be missing ? Has it just fallen off the board, or has someone already removed it ? In general, such items are pretty reliable in the sorts of positions that this one is ( on a pin of an LSI ) Arfa |

In general, such items are pretty reliable in the sorts of positions that this one is ( on a pin of an LSI ) Arfa I was removing a faulty modchip (Voltage protection mod for the SCPH-70012's laser coil motor) and it broke off. Completely my fault even though I was being considerably gentle with it and it didn't happen anywhere else. There are several other identical components (at least in appearance) all over the PCB but none have markings. The larger ones do but not these. Looking up the markings was the first thing I thought of but there were none, hence the creation of this topic. |

Another picture he
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/8...vv12v13iq8.jpg Thats a similar mod to the one I'm installing. The "component" in question is the one in soldering point "K" according to that picture. I found a similar looking component in the console's modem and successfully removed it. Soldering it back on is going to be a horrible challenge. The size of it is, quite honestly, ridiculous. I had to stop breathing to avoid snorting the damned thing after I removed it. So, as you can see, I'm still in the market for a larger solution. But I need the part info so I can see what I'm dealing with. Really need some help here, guys. I don't think I can pull it off with the tiny replacement component... which might not even be the right kind to begin with. |
