JVC Video camera Model: GR-D91U not able to record. Can play back.

MY JVC Video Camera (Model: GR-D91U) can play back on its LCD screen
but it cannot seem to record. The LCD screen in normal / record mode
is black (it thinks the lens cap is there). If I try and view things
through the view finder (once pulled back) it also is black and it
thinks the lens cap is on even though it is not. It once was flakey
where it would intermittantly work bout now it simply does not work at
all. What will it take to fix this? Anyone know if this can be a
cheap fix?

Thanks,

-David

The lcd viewing panel flips open and shut. Sounds like a break in the
flexible pcb or connections to that area. Here's how you can confirm
that, set the cam to rec mode and open the lcd panel half way,
adjusting slowly between 1/4 and 3/4ths way open, until the "lense cap
on" alert goes away and u see a picture. Prolly a break in the CCDs
output signal path to LCD block.

No video in camera mode - JVC has had lots of bad CCD imager chips. Maybe
you can get JVC to cover it.
