Need parts for Solomon Solder Station
A friend has a Solomon SL-20 Electronic Soldering Station. It has an SL-1
iron with a broken tip. He obtained it from a local company that went out of business. Searching the web, it appears that Solomon is popular everywhere else in the world, but not in the U.S. Does anyone know of a U.S. source for Solomon parts? Or, is anyone familiar with Solomon, and know if there is a commonly available tip that is compatible? Fred |

Or, is anyone familiar with Solomon, and know if there is a commonly available tip that is compatible? Fred Fred - Hopefully I can help you. Sorny Roong Industrial Co., Ltd (Solomon) - based in Taiwan is one of the largest OEM suppliers of soldering stations - BUT you are correct individual parts and tips can be a BEAR to get at times. http://www.soldering.com.tw/cgi-bin/...profile_lst.pl Remember that Solomon is an OEM manufacturer -- so they rely upon the "Brand Name" companies (e.g. Circuit Specialists, Elanco, Tenma) in the USA to worry about consumables for "end user" or " consumers" !! Solomon SL-20 http://www.soldering.com.tw/cgi-bin/...st.pl?ProdID=8 Now, I just so happen to repair a Tenma (Solomon) unit last year. So here is the information you need: 1. The heater and thermocouple are integrated in this design -- so IF one of the other fails -- you need a new heater/probe assembly !!! (The newest Weller WES51 station uses this same concept to compete and save $) 2. The individual parts, while listed on the Solomon web site in Taiwan, are non-existent with suppliers that I called. Why? They are the same price or slightly higher than purchasing and entire NEW IRON !! 3. For my Tenma repair, I was able to call MCM on their 800 and they cross referenced my Tenma base unit (Solomon SL30) with their internal part number for the correct iron (cost around $ 6 ). I did extensive clean-up on the unit (it was used daily in a radio/TV shop) -- and replaced the AC line fuse -- with one of the correct value (they had a 5 amp in for a 1 amp fuse -- no wonder it failed) !!! FOR YOUR REPAIR, Check with Circuit Specialists -- I think Solomon used the same iron for the SL10, SL20 and SL30 stations This is most likely part number SL24V at Circuit Specialists ($10.50) The iron has a 5 pin DIN connector for a plug - right? http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/6390 Selection of tips http://www.circuitspecialists.com/level.itml/icOid/2494 Greg w9gb |
