PowerBook G4 motherboard question
 

Attempting to resurrect dead 1 GHz DVI PowerBook motherboard.

What are the minimum components required to be connected for the motherboard
to show signs of life?

I currently have these connected:
- power-in connector & pcb
- power button
- 3.6v backup battery pcb
- headphones (to hear the boot gong or error beeps)

What else:
- keyboard?
- hard disk?

All I'm looking for is a boot gong or error beep code.

Also looking for group, mail list, or other forum that has the greatest
wealth of PowerBook hardware repair discussion. Suggestions welcome.

I don't know the exact answer but suspect most things have to be present
except for the HD ( at least older Macs would happily gong & then show a
disk with a ? in it if no system was found).

Get the manual through Gamba's site,

You're in ds-country it looks like, dead mobos are not easily diagnosed
without specialised equipment. Maybe you can establish voltages on the
various rails (+/- 5V, +/- 12 V, whatever the Mac uses on the board).

I assume you verified the power adapter works..?? You don't need a
battery with the adapter.
