VGA Cable Swap from CRT to LCD?

Hello,

I have a friend who has a 15 inch LCD monitor that is supposed to
connect with a VGA cable. Unfortunately, a prior owner of the LCD
monitor cut the cable off (Why would someone do such a thing?)

He told me that he took the monitor apart and disconnected the cable
from the circuit board. What I am wondering is, is it possible to pull
a VGA cable out from an old CRT monitor and put it in the LCD monitor?
If not, where could I obtain a replacement?

Thanks

If the same number of pins were used on the LCD as are used on the CRT
then it should be no problem. Your mission, should you decide to accept
it, is to determine which wires go to which pins, and wire the cable
from the CRT monitor into the LCD monitor.

That should work fine, it might take some good guessing to figure out
which wire is which though.

Well, amongst engineers this is a common practice to mark units
that are 'dead beyond repair'.

And 'on the street' this is a common indication that the unit is
'for sale without the previous owner's consent'
(Stolen, that is.)

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for your responses, I will forward them on to my friend. I have
a quick question for you, Gerard. I am missing something. Why would
someone steal it, then cut the cord and then try to sell it like that?

Thanks everyone

Junkies. Addicts to 'controlled substances'. Always in a hurry.
They take whatever looks interesting, as fast as they can.
No time to unscrew plugs, find matching adapters, etc.
It takes time for them to realise that it does matter in what
state the 'goods' are.

Most likely found them in a skip (dumpster) outside a repair shop. We
have a big problem here with unscrupulous types selling scrap tv`s and
vcrs in car parks and outside supermarkets, They wrap them in cling film
(saranwrap) to make them look new. There`s enough gready people about to
fall for these schysters and it would appear that the law can do little
about it.
