Default Toshiba 42" projection T.V.

At turn on, pix jumps, & flickers, & a vertical bar going up through
the left side of the pix. It gets quite a bit better, after less than a
minute, but still has waves on top 3/4 of pix mostly.
Found this info, but the numbers don't match. Which board is the hyper
board?

If your Toshiba 50h81 (and possibly other Toshibas), even after warm up
you have a problem.

Along with this, High Definition looks fine except for some green
flashes near the top. Here's what I did to fix mine.

I ordered a Next HYPER Board, PD0264A (as seen in the service manual).
I ordered it from Vance Baldwin Electronics (vancebladwin.com) The only
part available is a substitute, PN 23148017 MODULE, SCAN CONVERTER. The
cost was 219.50. It was backordered so it did not arrive for almost 3
months. Install is a little tricky. It is accessed from the back. You
need to remove the input board, the video processor, and some brackets
to get to the Hyper board. The hard part is putting the TV on either
its front or back (much eaiser if its laying on the screen, although
more dangerous) and then desoldering for tabs that go through the
signal board. There is a lot of solder on these and two of them have
been twisted for some pain in the butt reason. They are difficult to
twist back without damaging anything. When it is desoldered and twisted
back, the board should come out. Be careful not to crack the signal
board when pulling this out as I did. See above for what it does. I
found a slight chip in my signal board and it took some difficult board
repair to get the runs connected again (please be careful, as the
repair is difficult and not nearly as relaible as an unbroken board.

Anyways, install your new board, put everything back, and power it on.
I'm sure you'll have to do a convergance and some other adjustments,
but if your doing this fix, a convergence should be cake. My problem
has been fixed and I'm thrilled to not have to trash my TV. :hyper:
