Default Battery holders

My niece spilled chocolate milk on her Sponge Bob video game and it later
quit working. My investigation showed that the AA battery holder had
suffered some mild corrosion/oxidation thus effectively turning off the
little machine. After a good cleaning all is well now.

Is there a product out there that can be applied to batteries and their
contact points to minimize or eliminate high resistance because of
corrosion/oxidation?

Fine sandpaper does the job.

radio shack is selling small quantities of de-oxit... but this is mainly for
switch and relay contacts and pots.

on really bad corroded battery contacts i start off with baking soda on a
damp rag then move on to a brass brush, steel wool, burnishing tool or
whatever cleaner/abrasive seems appropriate at the time. sometimes i use the
wire brush or polishing wheel on a Dremel tool. sandpaper folded back over a
pencil and taped makes a handy tool. for lightly tarnished surfaces a
standard pencil eraser is very effective.

After cleaning, smear grease on the contacts to prevent further corrosion.
Almost any grease will do, even vaseline, but there are products specially
formulated for this sort of thing. For such a cheap item though I would just
use the vaseline.
