Intermittent Convergence Problem with MITS WT-46809 RPTV

I've got a MITS WT-46809 RPTV that does 16:9 widescreen. Recently, I'm
having an intermittent problem where the convergence on the TV just all
of a sudden goes wacky and the screen pincushions in the middle (from
both ends). It pulls the colors out of whack around all the outside of
the screen. This can last for various periods of time and then it will
correct itself. Turning on and off the TV does not correct the
problem. Also, playing with convergence in the menu does nothing. In
fact, it makes it worse when the screen corrects itself. Any thoughts
before I call a repair shop?

Thank you,

Matt Martin

Resolder the output ICs.

Leonard. I took a look at the output board and the solder connections
for the ICs seem to be fine. I tried reseating the output board and
that didn't matter. When the TV was turned on, it started out of whack
and about a minute or two in, it just corrected itself. The problem
is, the ouput will mess up later on and stay there for a period of time
and there seems to be nothing I can do to correct it.

At this point, I'm probably going to an authorized MITS technician.

Thanks,

Matt

Could be a bad output IC, but when they are intermittent they almost always
need to be resoldered.
