Hitachi Dv-p250

This DVD player stops playing DVD's, can be anywhere on the disc, the screen freezes, sometimes it starts playing again, sometimes it locks up completely and goes into standby mode. Anyone got any ideas ? I've tried cleaning the laser pick up but still no good.
