Newbie question on CRT moniter failure, chirping

Just turned on the moniter and instead of the whoom sound of the tube coming
up I got a chirping sound and no picture. This is a monivision 30 in crt
about 2-3 years old. Am I screwed or does it sound like something either I
or a repairman can do?

Power supply or deflection failure. The power supply is trying to start
up but sensing a problem, possibly a shorted horizontal output transistor
or other overload condition.

Yes, it can be repaired by a professional. By you if you have some
experience or are willing to spend time learning.

See the monitor repair guide at the site below.

The chirping comes from the switching power supply trying to start up
into a short circuit but failing and going into protection repeatedly.
The most likely cause of a dead short across the powersupply output is
a shorted HOT. Then we have to uncover why the HOT shorted out. Is the
horizontal drive okay or was it a powerline glitch? Etc...
If you have no idea what I'm talking about then have it seen by a pro.

Just had a 36" Monivision do this and it turned out to be the yoke's H
windings were shorted. Can't find a source of parts in the USA. If
you find a part source, please let us know. Chuck
