John Atkins:
Based on the (lack of) information that you posted there is not much
you can do other than verify that your computer and it's video display
card is still working OK by plugging in a different monitor. Also
make sure that there is not a problem with your monitor cable and that
it is firmly plugged into the computer and that there are no bent pins
in the connectors.

The video card is fine, there are no bent pins. what would be the
easiest/best way to check the cable?
as for "Based on the (lack of) information that you posted" It's a Gateway
EV700. The first time i hooked it up the power led came on and it made that
sound that monitors/tvs make when you cut them on, but the screen stayed
black for about 20 minutes. I was going to change monitors but was running
late for something so i just left it and when i came back into the room
about 20 minutes later it was working. It worked fine for around 2 1/2 weeks
but i never cut the power off on it, but then the power went off durring a
storm and since then it still makes that sound but doesn't display anything
at all no matter how long I wait.

The EV700 monitors are noted for their bad flyback transformers. Open
the set and check the resistance between the anode (big red wire that
goes to top of picture tube) and ground. It should read open circuit
(infinate resistance). If ok, then check the capactance between anode
and ground. It should read approx 2.75 nano-farads. If below 1 NF or
any resistance, its bad.
Hope this helps...
