Help: LG Plasma display problem

I have had an LG plasma for about a year with out any problems. I turned it
on last night and it now has a black, vertical band 2" wide in the middle of
screen all sources/all inputs, all of the time. Anyone else had the same
problem or know if it is fixable?

You'll have to get it looked at by a tech. If it's under warranty then no
problem, otherwise there's a good chance the problem is one of the driver
boards which may be bonded to the panel in which case it's not repairable.

You will have to get a tech to check it for you. He will have to be properly
equipped, and trained to work on the type of Plasma display you have.
Generally, the small shops will not be able to directly service it for you.
If it is more than a simple problem, they would have to jobber it out to an
authorized service centre.

If you contact the place where you bought it, or contact LG directly, they
can tell you who in your area can service it for you.

These displays are usually serviced at the modular level only. If it is the
main matrix driver board that is defective, this means that the Plasma
screen itself will have to be replaced. It is also possible that there is a
power supply fault with the unit.

The is why I tell people to buy an extended warranty with these expensive
displays. Many of them think that the vendor is only interested in some
extra money. But, the point is that the extended warranty is an insurance,
in case the unit fails. Repairs to the LCD and Plasma displays are generally
very expensive.
