Philips TV 17GR2540

When a lot of WHITE is presented on the CRT, the picture collapses in width
somewhat and shows E/W distortion. Sound becomes muted. Pressing PP brings
back normal sound.
Under normal ops. the subtitles appear as "ragging italics".

Any clue which component(s) to replace ?

poor regulation somewhere along the line. start by changing the
capacitors in the power supply and those near the line output
transformer. line driver decoupler cap is possibly bad if you have line
tearing.

This may be due to bad regulation in the power supply, HV supply, pin amp,
and the scan amplifier areas. Start by doing an ESR test of all the
capacitors in these areas. Replace all the ones where the ESR is out of
specs. Chances are that this procedure will fix the set. Be ready to replace
many capacitors in your set type.
