Hah! Handyman where I work put a ladder on top of a shaky scaffold and (unfortunately) fell on his head. Now the president calls me periodically when this guy is planning another big repair job and asks me to supervise him. Lead EE and maintenance supervisor.... Ain't it great working for a small company? Plant was complaining that there was poor heat coming from the hydronic heat system. After much fussing about by the maintenance guy, I happened to notice the Bell and Gossett circulator pump had sheared its couplings. We had a higher capacity maintenance free pump on hand and I suggested that he swap it out. I shut down the boiler shut off valves to isolate the pump and put a drain hose on the boiler. Unfortunately he kicked the hose and kinked it so system did not release all pressure. I had him change out the sticking air vent first (luckily) because he just removed the valve, not anticipating any pressure behind it. A stream of hot water sprayed all over the area. No injuries but it was hard to move away fast in the crawl space where this was. Rest of job was uneventful as I took a more active part in the work... |

Each and every one of these has been common sense since there have been Solstice trees! Thanks, Rich |
