Apparently the schematics still exist (well obviously since they rebuilt
colossus) - did they ever find their way onto the WWW?

Thanks.

FAIK they build the schematic and the machine simultaneously as both were
supposed to be destroyed (officially.)

Didn't recall a real computer named Colossus (except the movie, "Colossus:
the Forbin Project"), so looked it up.

Its been more than just hinted that some of the engineers involved in the
project illegally hid copies of the schematics that were ordered to be
destroyed.

The restoration group did after all succeed in rebuilding the computer from
scratch.

Some of the websites that turned up by google search have fragments of
schematic showing examples of basic logic functions.

The Bletchley Park documentary on BBC 2 last week had a sequence which
showed some of the schematics which are available for the public to view at
the Public Records Office in Kew. They did say, however, that some parts are
still classified as Secret.

Also, and very noteworthy was that not all the Colossus' were destroyed -
two were moved to GCHQ where they continued to be used until the 1960s
breaking the Soviet codes. The Soviets after they defeated German at the end
of the war, took a lot of Lorenz equipment back to Russia and were using it
until the the 1960s thinking that it was secure and the code unbroken!
