Global warming sucks.
Currently snowed in - the guest room has been made up for me but I don't
feel like sleeping. How quick does a splash of bourbon evaporate from a hot coffee? The news reports claim that the snow storms have hit as far as Spain (which is apparently very unusual) its still snowing when I just looked out and doesn't look like getting any better by the new day! The tobacco man is due back from the continent on Friday and his route across SE England is even worse hit than here, With only 1/4 pouch left its going to be difficult to get back and find out whether he made it back. After a long struggle I got the motorcycle up the drive and across the footpath (sidewalk) but got bogged down before I made it to the ruts made by the cars, once everyone's up tomorrow I can scrounge a spade to dig the bike out and get to the ruts. |

Cheers Could be I overstated the "snowed in" bit - turns out the ridiculously over-engineered inboard twin front disk (cleverly disguised as a drum brake) binds at these low temperatures. Last night, after a big struggle I got it up the drive but couldn't make it to the ruts left by the cars, this morning when I dug it out of the snow drift that formed where I left it, the front wheel was frozen solid, so I waited for the temperature to rise to 0C so I could get a flame out of the butane blowtorch and thawed the brake callipers. Tonight, I checked the front wheel still turned several times before getting ready to set off, as the sun set and the temperature fell, the wheel got increasingly sticky so I got ready and set off, unfortunately as I got to the snow ruts the front wheel just started sliding again. Third time lucky (hopefully!) once I've slept off the latest intake of bourbon, I can free up the brake and set off again - keeping my hand well clear of the brake lever. Once I get on the main roads with no slush or ice I can "feel" the front brake and warm up the pads. |

Was interesting to see how our 'new' dog did in the snow. We have four cocker spaniels. The most recent one was a rescue; blind and about 13 years old. I hadn't shoveled yet but the dogs wanted to go out. The three younger ones ran out into the snow and were having a great time. Maxine (the rescue) took one step out the back door, felt the snow and backed right back into the kitchen. I had to go out and shovel a path before maxine would go out. Then she was fine. Oppie |
