If you can catch it, or the re-run, be sure to see Steve Wynn (Vegas
Casino Owner) on Fox News Sunday, and his comments on the economy.

Someone has to cut liberals down to size ;-)

Seriously, I think "people's despair" is a very small percentage of
the action... you need to be in pretty good financial shape just to
rent a room anymore... long gone are the "free buffet" days.

Nobody sits out in front of his casino with a gun forcing patrons in.

Try not paying your government what they think they are owed and see who
it is living off of people's despair.

People are not despairing, they are having fun.

Well despair sometimes.

I don't like Wynn because he wanted to be the biggest and best.
They ruinend all the neat small places around town.
And another thing, Vegas is too high now, I mean stories high.
I used to like the wide open flatness of it.

No, it is more subtle than that. Gambling, particularly poker machines, have
evolved to induce a sense of euphoria (almost) designed to put the player "in
the zone" so they can't resist another press of the button. While a couple of
years old now this 4 Corners edition on problem gambling in Australia shows how
devastating and far reaching the problem can be for those who become addicted. I
doubt that the situation in the US would be any different despite the variation
in governing laws.
http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/speci...es/default.htm

For every problem gambler there are at least 7 others who are directly affected.

Casino owners, lottery proprietors, and drug dealers are all at about
the same moral level, for roughly the same reason. It isn't the people
who can take it or leave it that have the problem, and by taking their
money, these folks are selling despair.

People have different opinions about the social utility of these places,
and that's mine.

Cheers

This is hardly a subjective analysis of how successful Steve Wynn really is. The
whole story is based on the naturally biased input of the subject of the
interview himself - Steve Wynn.

If you want to find out how the casino business is really doing in the current
environment then you should view the recent 4 Corners program on Australian ABC
- The Son Also Rises.
http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/speci...091012/packer/

You should also play the extended interview of Randy Fine.

This is a far more subjective depiction than the 60 Minutes item.
