paining new stucco patch/repairs

no can.... 80lb bag of stucco mix (quickcrete I think)..bag says 30 days but
that's after two base coats and one finish coat about 3/4 inch total...I am
just spreading top patches about 1/4" thick..with the typical southwest
roughed up texture...so someplace it's even thinner.
seems to me the 30 days is for the complete job...with all three
coats...that makes sense ? Question is what's the problem (how long to wait)
with painting a thin patch layer over a 3/4 inch thick 30 year old stucco
wall ?
The paint would not know whether you have one layer or ten. Mortar and
new plaster take time
to cure completely. It is typical, for all the paint labels I can
recall reading, to wait thirty days before
primiing/painting new concrete.
I have used water based latex (DAP?) stucco patch from the box store.
It is avail. plain or sanded and
can be painted much sooner. Don't know how it is for real stucco, but
works like a charm on our
Florida concrete block/stucco. Even used it like mortar, with concrete
pavers, to fill a defect on
exterior wall where we took out an old, rusty fire extinguisher
cabinet. It shrinks a bit when used
heavilly, but another application after it dried filled in our problem
area.
