Geek question but what does PAR stand for in PAR timber.

If it is in context as 3 x 1 PAR meranti then PAR stands for 'planed
all round'.

That means all sides are planed , ideally square.

This is the most common available in most building supply places, at
least around my area.

If it's planed to be "all round" then why are does it have square
