strange shaped shower rail
Mornin' all,
I am hoping the collective knowledge of this NG can help me. I have a non-standard shaped ceiling in my bathroom: about 1.5m from the floor, the side walls angle in to almost meet when they reach the ceiling (there's about a 20cm bit of ceiling perpendicular to the floor. Kind of like: ____ / \ / \ / \ / \ | | | | Now, the bath runs along the end wall so that the ends of the bath are touching the flat bit of wall before it starts to slope. We are having a shower fitted above the bath (having to go on the end wall, as close to the tap-end as possible to allow enough height and room against the sloping wall - so not actually on the sloping wall as would be the 'usual' place to put it if the wall were flat). We have toyed with the idea of a shower screen folding along the length of the bath, but after other experiences with a similar setup, we have decided to go for a shower curtain instead (I wont go into the reasons, will just say that the decision is made). Anyway, the problem comes with the shower curtain rail. What I would like a rail that comes out of the end wall (not the sloped one), runs alongside the sloping wall over the bath until it gets to the edge of the bath (about 60cm), angles and runs up the sloping wall a little - to allow extra height and head room for getting in and out of the bath / shower (about 15cm), runs perpendicular along the bath (about 1m) and then slopes down again and back to the side wall (mirror image of the first half). Now for the questions - how / where can I get a shower rail that is such a silly shape ?! Are there kits available that would allow me to make this up from different parts ?? Depending on the material used, will I need a supporting pole attached to the flat ceiling to take the weight rather than relying on the wall fixings ?? The rail will be attached to tiles which are fixed to plaster board - will this be strong enough depending on what material I use and if I use a centre pole ?? The pole I have have in mind is a 'simple' steel / aluminium tube that a shower curtain will run along using rings. Not a 'tracked' curtain rail type thing. Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any help / suggestions - they are all much appreciated. |

My shower rail is made up of chromed 15mm water pipe and compression fittings. It appeals to my rather industrial/utiliarian view of interior decor, but might not be to everyones taste. Provided you can arrange good fixing at the ends, it should be stiff enough to be self supporting. Nick |

Take this to an engineering shop and have them make up a copy of this in stainless stell pipe, thats what I did! EC .. |
