Default Leaking Toilet

Just noticed my toilet is leaking.

It looks like a close coupled toilet, but there is actually a white plastic
elbow fitting between the tank and bowl. The bowl end has a triangular
flange, but is only bolted on the top two corners, and the water apears to
be coming from the bottom corner.

Any ideas on sealing it?

Bob

Silicone sealer.

wipe it and use hair dryer to dry it thoroughly, and squeeze as much
into all orifices as possible.

Don't flush for about 12 hours (i.e. do it last thing at night)

Do I have to undo the 4 rusty bolts to get the fitting out? Or do you mean
just splurge it into the gaps?

If I get the fitting out, I could dry it out properly.

splurge it into the gaps.

I have a short coupled and it did the same sort of thing. Hauled it out
and pipe-to toilet gasket was pants. Tried a rubber one. Impossible to
fit - slightly too large. Went back to crappo one filled with silicone.
Still leaked. Splunged silicone into every orifice. Eventually stopped
leaking. You need a torch and a mirror and long fingers and some very
old jeans to wipe yer hands on. White spirit and washing up liquid are
good for removing surplus, especially off your hands. Nothing gets it
off yer jeans tho.

Thanks for the tip - I left it a few days before replying to make sure it
was OK.

I could only get to the bottom 2 sides of the triangular flange, the top one
being too close to the cistern. I was wondering if it would still be
leaking and overflow out of the little reservoir at the top (there are 2
"walls" along the top of the fitting). The 2 rusty bolts must be holding
the fitting against the bowl hard enough to seal it.

I scraped as much of the hawk white stuff off it I could before starting.
What I thought was slime growing on the underside was actually a hawk white
drip, which was helping the water drip off into my strategically placed
bowl. When I removed this lump, the water dribbled down the bowl making it
uncatchable.

I managed to make a neat looking bead. The bowl end of the toilet is about
2mm bigger than the flange, so I ended up with a nice triangular cross
section bead.
