UPVC door lock repair
Our front door has been getting harder to unlock recently - I've changed the eurolock barrel and it's made no difference and as far as I can see, the door hasn't dropped enough to be causing the issue. Given that, I'm pondering changing the entire mechanism. Anyone have any experience of fitting the repair kit from toolstation? http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p93545 I'm assuming UPVC doors are all much the same, and that should fit ok? Anything to watch for? Cheers, Darren |

Dont know about repair kit but does it lock/unlock ok when the door is open as some doors have a few parts that can be adjusted. |

More so me cause spending £50 doesnt appeal :-( |

The door can be opened and cant be closed if you lock it with the door open -- Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc-ra-cy) €“ a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers. |

Cheers, Darren More options he http://shop.windowrepairshop.co.uk/e.../es115683_shop You need to get the exact match for various dimensions: key to handle, 'backset' (from plate to key/handle, number of rollers/mushrooms (mushrooms can be replaced by rollers - mushroom keeps don't seem to be availabe now, but roller keeps are OK for them, so it's not critical). Anything to watch for? An exact replacement is necessary for security and correct function. There are as many lock assemblies as there are fish in the sea, well, it seems like that at times. The lock assembly/set used is determined by the profile used by the manufacturer. Even if you replaced the entire setup i.e. lock, cams, keeps and striker, you would have to ensure that it fitted your profile. Find a local security lock specialist who supplies lock assemblies and take yours along. It is likely they will have an exact replacement or can order one. Don't delay as, if the lock breaks in the closed position, you might have a very expensive job on your hands. A picture of your lock assembly would help as I do have a few different lock sets in my workshop. -- Ilene |
