Default Do people build an add-on brick chimney up the side of a house?

My latest idea to get a wood-burning stove! Having seen several
stainless flues externally mounted up the side of the house I have to
say that they all look atrocious. Like Chinese takeaways. So I'm
wondering if it has been done before, namely to construct a proper
brick chimney up the side of the house, tying it in with the existing
brickwork. Would PP be required?

Yes it can be, and quite often is, done. PP? I'm guessing yes if it
alters the roof line. BC? Almost certainly.

Commonly done for barn conversions. Built with 4 sides I would have
thought, not 3 sides against the wall, and tied into the side of the
building. You may still need a flue liner.
I would expect planning permission to be required, since in my area at
least, it is not included in the guidelines for things that do not !
Especially if it will change the "street scene" in any way.

Building control will only really be interested in the flue inside. And
making sure it doesn't fall down.

You WILL need a flue liner, although in some cases clay sections
fireclayed together are acceptable.

Possibly but, if your house hasn't already been extended, it's quite
likely it would fall under "permitted development" and would be
exempt,

Cheers,
