Putting a new 100mm flue through a rather crumbly brick wall. There is

a
fair sized hole left over from the old boiler flue, and when I break

out
this old cement flue, one or two of the bricks above will be

unsupported.

The new flue is quite thin plastic. So, can I get something to put

round
the
outside of this to give a bit more strength? Maybe a bit of cast iron

drain
pipe with a 100mm bore. Any other suggestions please?

Geoff

Isn't there enough room to take the new flue through the old one ? Then

all
you'd need to do is fill in the gap between with some sand / cement mix
(mortar mix in a small sack from DIY Store).

Thanks for the suggestion, but it does not really work as the old flue
sloped upwards whereas the new one is horizontal. Also, we've chopped out
nearly all the old flue and it was quite brittle. Still, you've got me
thinking, because we have some fair sized chunks left over.

Ah Ha !! Isn't there enough movement in the new flue pipe to allow it to
rise at the same angle ? Pity if there isn't as this would have been ideal.
If the old pipe is the same shape and will go around the new flue, then it
will make things easier to fill back in though.
