Default gas fire connection pipe

Bought a Valor Black Beauty gas fire the pipe supplied with the fire has a
flat piece in the middle but it can be blown through. It looks as though the
flat piece has been manufactured in why is this.

Thats the pipe that the fitter uses to check the draw up the
chimney/vent .I think it is used in conjunction with a smoke match
that gas fitters use .

Please, asking this question indicates that:
a)You dont have the competance to fit a gas fire and
b) Your intending to fit a gas fire.
