Police release name of man killed during Michigan break-in

TAWAS CITY, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man
who tried to break into a northern Michigan home and was fatally shot
by a homeowner.

WSGW-AM and MLive.com report 21-year-old Jesse Odell of Oscoda was
found dead by police Sunday night in Tawas City. State records say he
was on probation in a drug case.

Police say a 66-year-old man was home when two men wearing masks and
brandishing knives entered and tried to rob him. He shot them both
with a rifle.

The second suspect, a 29-year-old Oscoda man, was treated for a
gunshot wound at the scene and then flown to a Saginaw hospital.
Police say he's expected to survive. Police have said the homeowner
wasn't injured in the confrontation. He hasn't been arrested.

Police are investigating.

And that brisk warning would have deterred the two men wearing masks
and brandishing knives , exactly how?

He probably would have but they probably continued attacking him.
If they hadn't, and he'd shot them in the back, he'd likely now be
under arrest. You're absolutely right about the adverse consequences
anyone might face after doing the right thing, though.
