The original Krypton bike locks had shackles that were overhardened

invulnerable because they certainly are not, but you won't get it done

It was the "hot trick" to shatter the pot metal lock
mechanism on a "Kryptonite" bike or motorcycle U lock.

Dump a whole can of freon (Was .99 cents a can at this time
for R-12) on the inset lock mechanism then give a heathly
smack with a hammer and pick the guts out with a screwdriver.

As for real locks a nice sledgehammer for backup and a ball
peen for doing the smacking would destroy most locks. Had to
do that all the time when I worked picking up motorcycles for
a cycle shop and the customer had left the bike locked at
a apartment complex. (I ALWAYS had the license plate number
so I wasn't picking up the wrong bike!)

BTW, if any one in Seattle wants to try an experiment w/ LN, let
me know--I have access to it. We could see if a lock will actually
shatter. Personally, I doubt one could break say a bicycle U-lock
like this. Mythbusters any one?

One day I was fooling around in lab. I made a finger out of aluminum
foil and poured some LN into it. LOX condensed out of the air and
dribbled down the outside of the finger. I collected some in a tube
and dropped a match in... POOF!

They used to break off the round "American" style locks on commercial vans
in NY that way. They freeze the hasp, (which was 2 pieces of chrome plated
angle iron that the lock attached to). Then they would put a pipe wrench on
the lock and snap the hasp off clean. I've seen the end result when it
happened to me. (Luckily there wasn't much in my van to steal.)

The newer styles of hasps have a shield that prevents someone from putting a
pipe wrench on the lock. I used to make them myself before they became
commercially available.

A quickey saw with 12" diamond blade goes right through them.
Years ago a friend called me to take a lock off his garage door .
I thought it would take at least a couple of seconds or more , but it
went through both in less than a second and almost into the door.
The diamond blade doesn't like rebar , but loves locks. I was thinking
of this before while watching soldiers beating on locks in Iraq. There
has to be a better way than standing in front of an enemy door for
ever repeatedly pounding on a lock.

Worked for a moving company one summer, and we regularly had
to remove locks from truck doors when people lost their keys
at the unloading end. A few smacks with a claw hammer usually
sufficed. But the only ones I saw that'd lock again after
were Masters (albeit poorly). Usually you'd just get a pile
of plates on the ground...

This one may not qualify as a clip from a movie, but IMHO it's
hilarious, non-explicit, and worth the download time for a 4.2 meg file
if you've got a fast connection. (English with German subtitles.)
