Default Skil Classic 2.5hp saw repair?

Guy gave me a Ski 7" saw yesterday. "Classic" model. Sorta a gold
color, in a fitted case.

Sounds like a Clabber Girl can full of ball bearings being spun up.

These saws worth repairing?

Sources for bearings and the screw/stuff that holds the blade on?

Can't say that you can "make money" repairing it, but if you google
"skilsaw parts" you'll get a lot of hits from places that sell parts.
You can usually look around on the sites to find your model, and see the
parts you need, with prices. I have gone this route several times.

That saw, if anything at all like mine, is a big P.O.S. Mine sounded
bad almost right away. I didn't use it much so by the time it sounded
bad it was out of warranty. Then, after only about 1 hour of use, the
thing melted a brush holder. Brushes and holders were not available at
any local place. The Classic saw parts could only be had mail order.
So I made up a new brush holder and modified a larger brush to fit.
Started fine, sounded like crap, even though everything was greased
and put together properly. Started to use it and got maybe 4 2 x 4s
cut when it quit agian, this time jamming. Looking inside revealed the
commutator segments that had come loose and jammed up the works. I
removed the new carbide toothed blade and threw the rest away.

I think the 'Classic' is their $40 special. If so, it has nothing but
bushings in the critical spots. I've rebuilt a couple of these, they
work fine with an abrasive saw blade and then toss the whole thing. If
it isn't the ball bearing models, forget it.

I dont want to make money..it appears that my post last month about
not needing to lock things up was a bit..premature. My favorite
Rockwell worm drive saw and all my angle grinders were last seen being
sold out of the back of a womans car.

I did manage to buy the Milwaukee Sawzall and 9" angle grinder back
from one of the old boys who bought em.

They know who she is..long time local thieve..so its a race wither the
cops or..ah..someone close to me catches up with her first.

I just need a power saw to cut stuff with.

You can buy a new one for under $40.

Uhh.. what... stuff?
Maybe you should just let the cops take care of it.

You could take it apart and just lube all the moving parts and add new
geargrease. Then mount an abrasive blade on it and cut anything ya want
with no fear of destroying a good saw.

With 2500 square miles of desert..and access to any number of
backhoes...using a saw for ThAT purpose is counterproductive.

Bad guys are always good down deep.

And it is bad for the saw, all that salt solution. Corrosive as heck.

My suggestion for rapists is "shoot, shovel and shut up."
Use a backhoe. Because as any rapist's friends and family will tell you
"deep down, they're good people."
