I am thinking about acquiring a lathe for spinning metal.

I would recommend any advice you might have in what is available.

Thanks

Strangely enough, this seems to be one of the areas that the 3 in 1
tools seem to be a good choice for, as they tend towards a largish swing
for their size. This assumes that the size range fits your needs,
anyway.

There was a couple articles in Home Shop Machinist over the last few
(dozen?) years, including one that ran to several issues. A search of
the various online indexes should find refs.

I understand that wood lathes are commonly used for metal spinning,
because the forms used for metal spinning are usually made of wood, and
because the techniques used for metal spinning are similar to those used
on wood.

I have followed this topic with interest for a while, but the closest I
have come to spinning was watching a demo made by an expert wood turner
who was not an expert metal spinner.

You might look for yahoo groups associated with metal spinning, I was
subscribed to one at one time.

As someone else noted, you want a lot of swing for metal spinning.
