Lawn mowers moving backwards
I guess my earlier posting on how to be able to move self-propelled lawn mowers backwards worked as the have not been any new postings on the subject so far this year on how to pull mowers backwards. Most years there are a number of questions raised.
Polite comments!?! |

You usually get an M with a lawnmower, etc., not a B. Granted, some M's are B's, but it's an M first and foremost. |

I release the "self propel" bar, turn around and walk, pulling the mower as I go. What is it that you say "worked"? |

Lawn mowers moving backwards
The question/comments were usually to the effect that they could not pull the mower backwards. I said to just push the mower forward a foot or so with the drive mechanism released and them pull the mower backwards. It always works for me.

Just release and pull backwards. That makes it real easy to get it out of the garage. ;-) |

Lawn mowers moving backwards
My clutch (or whatever) really only needs about 6" of forward travel to release whatever it is that hangs up. I usually just release to clutch mechanism while still going forward at the end of a row and there is enough momentum to release. But if I go slow and release slowly, I must back up 6" or so or I cannot pull it backwards.

Maybe I've just been "lucky" and have been traveling that extra 6 inches without realizing it. All I can say is that in the 10+ years that I've had the Honda I can't recall a single time that it didn't go backwards when I wanted it to. I'll pay attention the next time I have it out. |
