Default Custom Made Vented Gas Log Inserts?

I want to add a gas insert to my existing wood burning fireplace. I
don't really need it for heat, so I could just add gas logs and call
it quits, but I just can't stand the idea of losing 90-100% of the
heat up the chimney - whether I need it or not. The problem is that I
can't find anything in the exact dimensions that I want. I have a
large stone fireplace. The stone for about 2 inches around the sides
and 4 inches across the top have been ruined, so I want to cover
pretty much exactly those areas with the face. Problem is, I can't
find any inserts that both fit into my fireplace and cover exactly
what I want on the outside. I've found supposed "custom" inserts, but
they're not really custom sized, just made to look how you want them
using a standard size. Anyone here ever have a custom made gas insert
of have any suggestions?

Thanks - Dave

It's not so much the insert you want customized, it's the stuff around the
insert, covering the stone, you want customized. Plus, that would be a whole
lot less expensive than having an insert custom fabricated.

I've heard Regency is a very good insert manufacturer, you can start there.

And, btw, did not realize this until I went shopping not that long ago, gas
burning inserts are sealed, just like a wood burning one, and can be quite
efficient.
