Default Missing lights in your area?

Sometimes I see an article printed in a newspaper with the title
"Streetlights Stolen" and figured people steal them for scrap metal
money but appearantly their are weird people out there who "collect
them" .... I ask; why?

I wonder where all of these came from:

Nice to see American tax money go towards replacing missing lights
because of something like this.
