I'm moving into a home with ceiling radiant heat.
I have a candleabra that hangs from the ceiling. I usually just buy a butterfly clamp and suspend from the ceiling. I also usually hang decrorative chimes with cup hooks from the ceiling. IS this possible with radiant heat? Please email me,

You can do it but have to find the cables first. Choose teh area you
want to hang something. Turn the heat on and spray the area with some
water in a spray bottle. The cable should show up as a thin line.

One of the little non-contact electrical detector pens will probably
work a lot more reliably. One with a wide range of sensitivity
adjustments can get you within an inch even through thick drywall. In
some installations the heaer wires are spaced 6" apart so some
precision is needed and there is no going back -- break a wire and
you've broken the heat for the whole room (or maybe only half of it if
the room is huge).

Just realized that I made a small but important mistake in the previous
posting: the wires are far closer than 6" -- more like 2" based on a
look at a piece of the mudded ceiling drywall left over from the ongoing
basement rec room remodel.

we moved into our current house a few years ago, which is all electric.
When we moved in, the heat in one of the bedrooms didn't work.
Luckily there was a company nearby that had a specialist for ceiling
heat. Even for him it was tough finding the break in the wire (without
otherwise damaging ceiling plaster everywhere).

I live by the phrase "if it doesn't stink, don't stir it". Our living
room doesn't have a fixture in the center of the ceiling. All of the
other rooms do. Although it'd be nice to have a ceiling fixture in the
living room, I don't want to screw up the heat, so we use a switched
wall socket and table lamps.

If you do decide to try your lamp, check to see in advance that you
have an electrician who is experienced in ceiling heat issues.
