Default Opener closes, won't open

My GeniePro 951 C/A recently started having this problem. It would
close but not open. I finally figured out that, once it closes, if I
free the door from the track with the emergency release, open it just a
bit and reattach the door to the track, then unplug and replug the unit
it would open easily. I could even close it most of the way with the
remote or wall control, then reverse it before it hit the close limit
switch and it would open just fine. BUT, if it ever hit the close
limit switch, it was as if it created a short. Once I went through all
the above steps again it would start working... until it hit the close
limit switch again. I swapped out the close limit switch with one from
the other garage door but it made no difference. I reversed the close
switch with the open limit switch ( they are exactly the same) but that
didn't change anything. I have concluded that it is not the switch
itself, but rather once the limit switch is hit, it trips something in
the controller. Unplugging and replugging the unit "reboots" it ONLY if
the door is raised by hand to free up the close limit switch.
Everything inside the controller is nice and tight and clean. I
suppose it is a relay or something that has gone bad.
Any suggestions before I call out the repair guy?

Try adjusting the close limit to where it doesn't quite close
completely and see if it then will operate on both cycles. If so,
gradually readjust the close limit to where it belongs but not too far.

Default Opener closes, won't open

I've been to Genie's web site. No help. I've adjusted the settings.
No help. Before the door actually trips the close limit switch, I can
push the switch with my finger and it will stop the close, but this
totally shorts out the opener, until I reset it by unplugging the unit
and plugging it back in. Because I can do this just by touching the
close limit switch I do not believe it has anything to do with the open
and close adjustments. It must be a short out in a capacitor or relay
that is triggered by the close limit switch.
I've called a Genie authorized service company, the one's who installed
the unit.
I'll post back what the outcome is.

Make sure the switch on top of the wall controller is in the
correct position. After I installed a new Genie I had the
same problem. I was ready to take it back to the store when
I found the switch was in the vacation position.
