Default Shower seat.

I'm remodeling a bathroom and I want to build a shower seat into an
existing shower. The dimensions are approx 53" x 36". I want to build
the seat into the end of the shower, probably 12 to 16 inches deep.
I've demo'd the old bath down to the studs and I'm looking for guidance
with how to frame and seal a new seat. Any body have a reference for a
site or good book that might show how to do this?

Lets say you want a seat along the 3' wall. Just build a rectangle 36"x16"
(outside dim) out of 2x4s then nail that to the studs. now slap a sheet of
plywood on top and bottom. finally cover the walls and seat with cement
board and tape before tiling.

Make sure to provide a slight slope to drain water and if you tile, make the
inner tiles sit slightly higher than the front edge to promote quick
drainage. You can slope it when you tile, installing the bench should be
done on the level.

That will produce a substantial seat that may be chilly to sit on, Another
option is a wood bench attached to the wall that can flip up and out of the
way.

I did it the first way and tiling the bottom was a pain in the neck but it
doesn't need to be perfect either. I ended up building a wooden platform
for the top to take the chill off (and this is a steam room). I think I
might have done it the other way if I did it again.
