Default Hot tub bromine use & a weekly shock

I have a 300 gallon hot tub, and I use a bromine feeder. I've read over
and over that it's a good idea to shock the tub once a week, but when I
do, my bromine levels go off the charts (super high) for a week! Does
this mean that I am using too much non-chlorine shock, or is this
normal?
