Default Which Honeywell Thermostat Model For New Hot Air Furnace ?

Hello:

Will be having installed a new gas, forced hot air system shortly in my
son's house.
Will be a Trane/American Standard 80 series, two stage, and probably with
the variable speed blower.

Would like to learn a bit more about thermostat options so I can
agree with, or disagree with, what the HVAC contractor might recommend.

Pretty confusing subject.

To simplify things a bit, let me say that I want a Honeywell, programmable,
and it should not be a mechanical version.

So, I guess it is the Vision Pro line, or the Chronotherm® IV Plus
Programmable Thermostat line.

The hooker is that neither my son, or his wife, are very mechanical or
technically inclined.
Don't want to get them something they won't be able to use easily.

Any thoughts on either of the above regarding usage and programming ease,
reliability, etc. ?
What are the major differences between ?
Pros and cons, etc.

Much thanks,
Bob

I've been living with a VisionPro thermostat for several months, and I've
been real happy with it. Easy to program, quite geeky with it's touch
screen interface, and does a fine job of maintaining the heating and cooling
temps in my house.

Here's a link to try it out online:

It can be set up to run in a simple mode if necessary; check with your
installer.

Bob.

I would get Tranes version of the Vision Pro 8000. That way it can be
covered under Tranes 10 year parts and labor warranty. Which I would
suggest that you insist that you get.
