Default When to use 'Delicate wash' on washing machine?

When do you use the 'Delicate wash' knob on the washing machine? I've
been washing clothes and never really knew the reason for it. I've
always used permanent press. I've noticed that when i buy any new
clothes, then subsequently washing it, they come out looking worn out.
The look is not 'new' anymore. Is it because of the permanent press
washing, thus a need to change to delicate or do i need to turn the
clothes inside out? Thanks.

Read the little tags on the clothes to see what setting to use.
