Default GE jvm1339 spacemaker microwave

Anybody? I have a GE spacemaker over-the-range microwave. It's been a
real pain in the a*s. The most recent problem is the fan turns on when
I open the door. Hasn't affected the operation, but it shouldn't (and
didn't) do that. I pulled the board and found a bad diode (I think
it's bad - reads continuity both ways)in what appears to be the fan
curcuit. Found the same type diode (reads continuity one way only) in
the cavity light curcuit which operates as it should. My problem is
I'm a gearhead - not an electron type of guy. The diode is marked G4.
I cant find any web reference to what the value might be. Seems to me
that I could replace it with any diode of a similar physical size with
a high enough voltage value. Any reason I shouldn't think that way?
Can I just find something at radio shack and solder it in? Should I
stick a chevy small block in the thing?

TIA, Gearhead )

PS: all my other GE appliances suck as well. Just fixed a cold solder
joint in my Profile oven controller that caused an F3 fault code.
Replaced the Profile dishwasher after fixing THREE (3) different
problems in two years THEN the pump seal let loose and flooded my
kitchen.
