In the UK - any mention of "Republican" would put people in mind of Irish terrorists. Apparently the main Tory gang hut has a brass plate on the gate saying; "The Conservative and Unionist Party" - basically, they were a member of one of the warring factions! The peace process only took hold with any credibility after the Labour landslide election win. |
