Good for you, John.

That's about the same time that I was awarded the military equivilent
of the FCC first phone, and did some RADAR work at Ft. Rucker. At that
time it could be converted to first phone by signing the application and
paying the fee, but they changed the rules just before I was
discharged. I didn't need it at the time, and never made the long trip
to the nearest FCC field office.

Congratulations John!
Boy was I proud when I got mine in 1959. Unfortunately, they required
me to return the old one for each renewal. I never did do anything
that required mine, but I felt that it helped get the next two jobs!

BTW, there were no transistors on the exams in 1959.

I'm ex K7ZAE (amateur), but I let it lapse (early '70's) after my
experiments in PLL's in 2-meter rigs. I'm not the chatty-Cathy type,
so I found it boring :-)

Nice! I only held a 3rd class permit so I could operate the board at WTSC,
Clarkson College's FM radio station. That was back in 1971. Never bothered
to renew it when it lapsed, having moved on to other endevours.
